Glass Box Solutions was not founded by technologists who saw an opportunity in legal AI. It was founded by a practicing California Workers' Compensation attorney who experienced firsthand the inefficiency that defines the profession.
The Founding Story
Alex Brewsaugh has practiced CA WC law for 15 years on both sides of the bar, defense and applicant, and is still active in practice today. Most WC attorneys spend their careers on one side. That dual-side experience revealed a structural truth about the practice: approximately 70% of attorney time on every case is spent on work that does not require a law degree.
Form completion. Medical record summarization. Correspondence. Scheduling. Deadline tracking. Document organization. These tasks consume the majority of attorney time across both sides of the bar, and their completion does not benefit from legal training, courtroom experience, or strategic judgment.
The 30% of time that does require legal expertise (evidence analysis, apportionment strategy, settlement valuation, hearing preparation, legal research) is where outcomes are determined. But attorneys cannot focus on this high-value work because they are drowning in the mechanical 70%.
Adjudica was built to solve this specific problem, from the inside. Not by interviewing attorneys about their pain points and building a product based on interview summaries, but by an attorney who lived the problem daily for a decade and a half.
“From Black Box to Glass Box.”
In Explainable AI, a Glass Box model is one whose internal reasoning is transparent, interpretable, and auditable. A Black Box produces outputs you cannot trace or defend. In a profession where every filing must withstand adversarial challenge, that distinction is not academic. It is existential.
The Team
The Glass Box Solutions founding team is fully equity-compensated. When the company succeeds, the team succeeds. No other arrangement creates the right incentives.
CEO & Co-Founder
Fifteen years of California Workers' Compensation practice on both sides of the bar, defense and applicant, and still active in practice today. This dual-side experience is rare in the CA WC market, and it directly informs the company's ability to build for both segments simultaneously. Alex's domain expertise drives product vision. Adjudica was built to solve his own problem: the 70% of time on every case consumed by work that does not require a law degree. "Built by a WC attorney, for WC attorneys" is not a tagline. It is a structural advantage that generic AI companies cannot replicate.
Chief Legal Officer
Legal strategy, regulatory compliance, and the architect of the company's 46-document legal framework, the most comprehensive compliance posture of any early-stage legal AI company. Sarah ensures Glass Box Solutions operates within the strict regulatory boundaries that govern AI in legal practice, including HIPAA, CCPA/CPRA, CMIA, California Bar Ethics, and the critical UPL guardrails that define AdjudiCLAIMS by Glass Box.
Chief Technology Officer
AI/ML engineering and technical leadership. Matt leads the engineering of the Adjudica AI platform, building the systems that make every output transparent, auditable, and citation-linked. The Glass Box principle of explainable AI is his engineering philosophy in practice.
Chief Operating Officer
Operations, go-to-market execution, and scaling. Brian's operational leadership positions the company for the transition from founder-led sales to a repeatable, scalable sales process. As the company moves from founding member adoption to market capture, Brian's operational foundation determines the pace of growth.
Core Values
Glass Box Solutions operates under five values that function as engineering and business constraints, applied to every product decision, every feature, every architectural choice.
A slow correct system beats a fast broken one. Every AI output is validated before delivery. No hallucination tolerance. No "good enough" approximations on legal questions.
Every AI output must be traceable and auditable. Citations to specific document pages. Visible reasoning chains. Confidence scores on every populated form field.
HIPAA/SOC 2 as constraints, not afterthoughts. Encryption, audit logging, multi-tenant isolation, and role-based access control are architectural requirements.
Code explainable in one sentence beats clever code. Maintainable architecture that any competent engineer can understand, modify, and debug.
AI provides evidence; professionals make decisions. No auto-filing. No auto-submission. No bypassing attorney review. The professional sees the evidence, evaluates the reasoning, and decides.
The Long-Term Vision
We succeed when every California Workers' Compensation claim, from initial filing through settlement or trial, is processed with Glass Box AI. Applicant attorneys preparing settlement demands with AI-cited evidence analysis. Defense attorneys drafting responses with AI-verified legal research. Claims examiners tracking regulatory deadlines with AI-cited medical record summaries. Insurance carriers observing transparent, auditable ALAE reduction across their defense panel.
All participants in the system seeing the same clear, citable, defensible analysis, and making better decisions because of it.
